Instructor: Julie Wiebe, BSc, MPT

This training will provide Massage Therapists with new tools to optimize Core function and to promote self-care and rehabilitation strategies for perinatal and postnatal clients.

Women have unique challenges to Core recruitment due to structural & postural realities. Women who have had children also contend with the Core inhibiting changes that pregnancy creates. Addressing these distinct issues is critical to providing the best possible outcome for female clients with a variety of diagnoses, and regardless of what stage of motherhood they are in—pregnant early postnatal or beyond.

Presentation of evidence based assessment and intervention strategies will be emphasized for recruiting each element of the Core, synchronizing Core component activation, reconnecting the Core with specific synergistic relationships and reestablishing Core optimizing alignment. Pregnancy related barriers to Core recruitment, including Core inhibiting posture, associated weakness and restrictions, and habitual muscular compensation patterns will be addressed. Ample practical sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to correlate concepts with practical hands-on intervention strategies designed for immediate implementation with a variety of populations including carry-over to male patients, and women who have not had children.

Julie Wiebe is a practicing physiotherapist, a women’s health educator and mom of two. Her academic background includes a BS in Movement Science and a Master of Physical Therapy degree. She has over thirteen years of clinical experience in orthopedics and sports medicine with recreational and professional athletes. Her recovery following the birth of her daughter inspired Julie to help other moms pursue physical restoration following pregnancy. This led to the Interior Fitness education and exercise program designed to teach women with children of all ages how to recover optimum Core performance, do a Kegel, return to safe and effective fitness programs and prevent injuries. Julie has had the opportunity to share her unique education-based approach in both the US and Canada through seminars and workshops for women and professional development training for fitness and rehab specialists.
